Droughts occur all year round in Australia because it is an extremely dry continent, which means it is prone to many droughts. Most droughts are located in dry and hot areas. In Australia, they are usually located in areas which are away from coastal areas. South Australia is the driest state in Australia which means it is subjected to have many droughts but other states such as Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria experience terrible droughts. Cool water currents off the coast of Western Australia prevent rainfall in that part of Australia, and the continent is also very flat, which leads to reduced rainfall.
